This unique artwork in two parts by artist Robert Labossiere will elegantly compliment any decor, inviting quiet contemplation and stimulating conversation. Titled “Selene and Endymion,” the work is an allegory, Selene represented by the circle, Endymion by the rectangle. In Greek mythology, Selene is a deity associated with the moon and the moon cycle, including night, ocean tides, magic, childbirth, dew, lunacy, nursing and the months. Selene draws the moon across the sky each night and one night sees Endymion (a shepherd in some versions, an astronomer or star gazer in others) and falls in love. She asks Zeus to grant him immortality, and Zeus puts him into eternal sleep so he may never grow old or die. Together they had fifty daughters called the Menae who rule over the fifty months that separate the Olympic games. The work is mounted on museum board ready for display as is or framing.
